THE recent flashflood in Ifugao province due to “habagat” has left at least P14.6 million in damages and losses to agricultural products and farmlands.

In its Bulletin No. 2 on flashfloods due to “habagat,” the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that there are at least 684 farmers who were affected with volume of production loss at 728 metric tons (MT) and 198 hectares of agricultural areas.

The affected commodities include rice and high value crops. These values are subject to validation.

The DA, through its Regional Field (RFOs), is conducting assessment of damage and losses brought by the Southwest Monsoon or “Habagat” in the agri-fisheries sector.

The DA continuously coordinates with concerned national government agencies (NGAs), local government unit (LGUs) and other Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM)-related offices for the impact of the “Habagat”, as well as available resources for interventions and assistance.

Meanwhile, the DA said the affected farmers and fishers will be provided assistance which include the distribution of rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds; and drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry.

Other assistance include the Survival and Recovery (SURE) Program of Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); available funds from Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to indemnify affected farmers; and Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.
