HPS to convince Sara to run for president
HUGPONG Para kay Sara (HPS) will continue to convince Mayor Sara Duterte to run for president in the May 2022 national elections in spite reports that she will instead seek reelection in Davao City next year.
“Kami sa HPS ay naniniwala na nothing is final until October 7, and that is why HPS continues to register new members and chapters, ang dami kasing gustong sumapi sa amin to convince President Rodrigo Duterte na i-reconsider niya ang mga plano niya sa 2022 to open the door for Mayor Sara to run for president,” HPS chairman Anthony del Rosario, also the spokesman and secretary general of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) of Mayor Sara, said in an interview with DWIZ radio program, Karambola.
The former governor of Davao Del Norte said there are reports that Mayor Sara will seek a second term as Davao City mayor in honor of her agreement with the president that only one Duterte will run for national post.
“Hindi pa rin titigil ang HPS na mangalap pa na mga bagong miyembro na tutulong para i-convince si Mayor Sara na tumakbo sa nalalapit na election,” Del Rosario added.
HPS now has more than 50,000 members and chapters nationwide and supporters worldwide in the Middle East, Europe, Canada and the US.
“There is no other person that can continue the programs that the president has started five years ago. We also believe Mayor Sara ismm the only unifying person of the administration; it is important that the government must be unified if they want to continue the programs of the president, only Mayor Sara can do that, “ Del Rosario said.
For decades of his service as mayor of Davao City and as president, Del Rosario said President Duterte has already left a legacy, and it is high time for him to take a break in politics and enjoy his family, particularly with her daughter, for the remainder of his life.
“Throughout his years in politics, the president listens to the people and sana makinig ang presidente ngayon sa tinig ng taong-bayan and take the right step by October 7,” Del Rosario added.
Mayor Sara continues to lead election polls despite not being active and visible around the country. She is busy tending the situation in Davao City, particularly in addressing the spread of the pandemic in the city.
“Malakas ang charisma ni Mayor Sara, I’ve been with her since 2019, parang magnet siya sa mga tao, people will crowd around her right away, it is an amazing sight to see I’ve never seen before; it’s a phenomenon, people really love her kahit hindi siya laging laman ng mga balita unlike others na mahilig sa social gatherings and babad sa social media pero hindi naman tumataas ang ratings,” the HPS chairman said.
The governor of Antique, Rhodora Cadiao is the latest to join HPS and pledge their support despite reports that Mayor Sara said she will no longer run for president.
HPS, a citizens movement comprising of various groups, academe, lawmakers and marginalized sector, is formed to convince Mayor Duterte to run for the highest post of the land.
