House earmarks P500M for Antique Airport upgrade

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) welcomed the additional P500 million fund earmarked by Congress for the upgrade of the Antique Airport that is seen to boost Western Visayas’ tourism and economy.

The fund, allotted through the efforts of Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda and Antique lone district Rep. AA Legarda, will be used for the improvement of the Antique Airport and the extension of the runway.

Under the 2023 General Appropriations Act, an amount of P500 million will be allocated under the Construction, Rehabilitation, and Improvement of other Transportation Infrastructure-Aviation program.

DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Roberto Lim said the fund will be utilized for the relocation and replication of Salazar Elementary School and runway expansion.

Part of the amount will likewise be used for the construction of a passenger terminal building, control tower, and fire house.

The fund allocation will guarantee an upsurge in tourism and economic activities in Antique and Western Visayas.
