LOCAL Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. yesterday said that the country is a step closer to realizing the vision of digitalization through the twin launching of the Electronic Local Government Unit (e-LGU) system and the People’s Feedback Mechanism (eReport) mobile apps.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday led the event that marked a paradigm shift in delivering public service towards building a more efficient, transparent and citizen-centered governance system.

Abalos, who was in attendance, said that the eLGU app will bring local governments to the digital world while the eREPORT serves as an avenue for people to report criminalities, fire incidents and emergencies.

The DILG chief said that with these new technologies, the government opens the doors to boundless possibilities while promoting transparency and engaging communities towards more opportunities and progress.

President Marcos Jr. said; “Today is a momentous occasion as we launch the eLGU and eReport Systems that aim to digitize government services for the benefit of every Filipino. These programs mark a paradigm shift in how our government and citizens interact with one another.”

The eLGU, he pointed out, covers a wide range of local government services such as business permit licensing, notice of violations, notification system, community tax, health certificates, local civil registry, business tax, and real property tax.

On the other hand, the eReport is interoperable and linked with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) iReport, which is a Crime Response Management System, and the Bureau of Fire Protection’s (BFP) Fire Response Management System. This allows citizens to voice real-time reports through their mobile devices.

Both systems were developed as vital components of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT’s) eGov PH Super App, a mobile application that integrates multi-sectoral government services in a single platform.

According to Abalos, local government units (LGUs) are now moving towards automation with 95 percent having established their Business One Stop Shops (BOSS); 86 percent.
