GLORIA Diaz has honed her acting chops through the years.

That is expected from her as she has been in showbiz since she was crowned Miss Universe in 1969, becoming the first Pinay to win the crown. And fittingly, her launching movie was titled ‘Ang Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa’, which was directed by Celso Ad. Castillo. Pinauso niya ang ‘wet look’ sa pelikulang ito. Mula noon, hindi nawala sa limelight si Gloria. She maintains her stature as beauty queen to this date. At isa siya sa mga succesful na beauty queen na tumawid sa pagiging artista. Kung noon pinipintasan ang kanyang pag-arte, hindi na ngayon. She has already proven her worth as an actress. She has gracefully aged like a wine, becoming even better.

Gloria’s last remarkable acting performance was in the hit serye ‘2 Good 2 Be True’ with Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla and Ronaldo Valdez leading the cast. At ngayon, muli niyang patutunayan kung gaano siya kagaling sa pelikulang ‘Lola Magdalena’. Sayang nga lang at hindi napasama ito sa Metro Manila Film Festival 2023. Kasama niya sa nasabing pelikula sina Liza Lorena, Perla Bautista, Pia Moran at Sunshine Cruz.

Isa si Gloria sa mga mahuhusay na aktres na effective sa bida at kontrabida role. Na nakukuha niya ang simpatiya ng viewers ‘pag bida ang karakter na ginagampanan at kinaiinisan ‘pag kontrabida ang karakter. What is endearing to her is her attitude towards showbiz: She is grateful to the entertainment industry that has put her to where she is now. Kaya naman isa siya sa mga nirerespeto at hinahangang aktres.

Had Lola Magdalena been chosen as official entry to this year’s MMFF, would she give Vilma Santos and other lead actresses a run for their acting trophy in the awards night? Just asking…
