Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 3) — President Rodrigo Duterte received on Monday his first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

“I have been expecting this shot, vaccination a long time ago,” Duterte said in a video shared by Senator Bong Go on Facebook.

The vaccine was administered by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III. When asked how he felt before receiving the shot, Duterte said he felt “good.”

Duterte had previously confirmed that he would receive the vaccine made by Chinese vaccine manufacturer Sinopharm, which Malacañang has previously said he preferred.

In a message, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the first dose was “covered by the compassionate use permit issued to the PSG hospital by the FDA.”

The Food and Drug Administration said Sinopharm has yet to officially apply for emergency use authorization, but was previously given a compassionate special permit for use by the Presidential Security Group. By CNN Philippines Staff
