TOUGH-talking President Rodrigo “Digong” R. Duterte, a lawyer by profession, completes tomorrow, Tuesday, the 71st month of his 72-month presidency.

That means that the Chief Executive from Mindanao has only a month before he turns over the country’s top political post to President-elect Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Under the Constitution, the incoming President from Ilocos Norte and other newly-elected national and local government officials assume office at 12 noon on June 30.

President Marcos, Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio and the 12 winning senators, led by movie actor Robin Padilla, will serve for six years until June 30, 2028.

The thousands of newly-elected local government officials, including members of the House of Representatives, governors and mayors, have a three-year term of office.

The only son and namesake of the late President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos is seen to acquire the distinction of ruling the country with the support of majority of the people.

Note that Bongbong Marcos overwhelmingly won the presidency in the May 9 national and local elections, garnering 31.6 million votes of the 65 million registered voters.

In fact, this was the cue for the other presidential candidates to concede defeat, thereby paving the way for the early and smooth proclamation of Marcos and Duterte-Carpio.

Hopefully, the good gesture of the defeated presidential hopefuls, including Vice President Leni Robredo, will lead to the early healing of the political wounds.

Sana nga habang naghahanda ang lahat para sa nakatakdang pagpapalit ng administrasyon sa tanghaling tapat ng Hunyo 30.
