A GROUP that helped propel former President Noynoy Aquino to the presidency in 2010 has thrown its full support to the presidential bid of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso.

Ten officials of the group Bagong Pnoy, led by its founder and president Juvy Catajoy, personally went to Moreno’s City Hall office Thursday to pledge their group’s support for his presidential bid.

A number of Liberal Party stalwarts earlier bolted their party to join Aksyon Demokratiko and throw their support behind Mayor Isko. They are Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice, former LP Quezon City chairman Jopet Sison and Mindanao civic leader Samira Gutoc.

Both Sison and Gutoc are now running for senator under the Aksyon Demokratiko ticket with Manila Mayor Isko as standard bearer and Dr. Willie Ong as vice presidential candidate.

Catajoy said they are backing Mayor Isko because they believed that only Moreno can lift the country out of poverty.

“Pumunta po kami dito kay Mayor Isko Moreno kasi naniniwala kami na kailangan talaga na bigyan pansin ng susunod na liderato ang mga mabibigat na problema ng ating bansang Pilipinas – kawalan ng trabaho, hirap ng buhay, kawalan ng direksyon ngayong pandemya,” he said.

“Nakita po namin na nagawa ni Mayor Isko na maayos ang Maynila sa kanyang limitadong oras at kayamanan ng siyudad na kung saan siya nagtagumpay. Ang amin pong hiling ay sana magawa niya ito sa ating bansa.,” Catajoy added.

Catajoy stressed that their decision to support Moreno was not influenced by any one, nor did they asked for anything in return, did not give anything and did not receive anything for their support.

“Kusang-loob po kaming pumunta dito dahil sa aming paniniwala na isang Yorme na galling sa hirap ang tanging makakapa-ahon sa ating hinaharap na kahirapan (We came here on our own freewill because we believed that a Yorme who came from poverty can uplift us from the poverty that we are facing),” Catajoy said.

Additionally, he said Bagong Pnoy is calling on the present leadership and all candidates to stop squabbling and exchanging hurtful words as these won’t help lift Filipinos from poverty and save their lives.

“Bilis Kilos po ang tanging kailangan gaya ng mabilis na kilos na ginawa ni Yorme sa Maynila,” Catajoy said.
