THE Philippine Red Cross reminded the public of the importance of COVID-19 testing as the threat of the Delta variant, first seen in India, is all too real.

Senator Richard J. Gordon, PRC chairman and CEO, reiterated the importance of testing and vaccination due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and the rising cases of the Delta variant in the country.

“We must continue testing. Kahit ikaw ay bakunado na, potential carrier ka pa rin ng Covid at may kakayahan na makapanghawa sa ibang tao. Testing is the only way to separate the asymptomatic and non-asymptomatic virus spreaders from the non-infected,” he said.

Gordon made the call in the wake of reports that the Department of Health has been recording more than 8,000 new cases daily since Saturday.

The PRC is the leading organization for COVID-19 testing with 3,669,177 tests conducted.

PRC now has 13 molecular laboratories operating nationwide, and will soon open a molecular laboratory in Cotabato City to serve more people in the fight against COVID-19.

PRC expects a larger volume of people who will be admitted to its four isolation facilities in UP, Ateneo, Benilde, and Makati Science High School and emergency field hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines as the Delta variant spreads throughout the country.
