Converge on a roll

ANTIPOLO –Converge played just hard enough to roll back NLEX, 108-84, and move into a tie with Bay Area for second place with its fifth straight win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center here Saturday.

Aljun Melecio finished with 24 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead the FiberXers, who improved to 6-2 in a tie with the Dragons.

Melecio also went 5-of-7 from the three-point area and the FiberXers made 18 triples out of 40 attempts enroute to a lopsided victory.

Import Quincy Miller added 15 points and nine rebounds in only 18 minutes of action, while Jeron Teng contributed 14 points and five rebounds for Converge,

Miller was ejected in the second quarter for a flagrant foul.

Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser led NLEX with 24 points and nine rebounds.

But NLEX import Earl Clark managed only 15 points om 5-of-15 shooting and nine rebounds.

Later, TNT Tropang Giga routed Terrafirma, 121-90, to improve tob4-4.

Cameton Oliver finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds, ebile Jayjay Alejandro added a career-high 17 points for the Tropang Giga.

Lester Prosper led the eay for the Dyip with32 points and 15 rebounds.

Meanwhile, action returns to the Smart Araneta Coliseum today with the highly-anticipated battle between sister teams Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer.

The Gin Kings (4-2) and the Beermen (3-3) are both looking to gain some ground in the tight race for the playoff berths when they collide at 6:45 p.m.

The Kings are gunning for their third straight win following back-to-back victories over league-leading Magnolia Hotshots (103-97) last Oct. 23 and Terrafirma Dyip (111-90) last Oct. 28.

After a 1-3 start, the Beermen have also won their last two assignments against NLEX (124-116) last Oct. 23 and NorthPort (104-86) last Oct. 26.
