CIGNAL vented its ire on Strong Group Athletics, 25-7, 25-16, 25-16, to gain a share of second place in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Gel Cayuna orchestrated the plays well for the HD Spikers with 21 excellent sets and matched Riri Meneses and Vanie Gandler’s two blocks.

The HD Spikers needed only 81 minutes to raise their record to 4-1. Cignal is now level with PetroGazz and defending champion Creamline in second spot.

Up next for the HD Spikers is a duel with the Cool Smashers on Tuesday prior to the Lenten break. Creamline’s lone loss came from the hands of Chery Tiggo in Santa Rosa, Laguna last Saturday.

“Service receive is our primary focus, but against a powerhouse team like Creamline, we need to improve every aspect of our game. So we need to prepare diligently,” said Cayuna.

Gandler took the scoring mantle for Cignal with 16 points while Ces Molina added 14 points.

“Proud sa buong team kasi tinrabaho talaga namin itong laro na ito, sabi ko nga kanina before magstart importante itong game namin kasi kung ano yung pinaghandaan namin sa training dapat maexecute namin sa game,” said coach Shaq Delos Santos after Cignal rebounded from last week’s straight-set loss to Choco Mucho.

Sheeka Espinosa logged eight kills and 11 digs, MJ Onofre had a match-best four blocks for a six-point outing while Dolly Verzosa added four points and 11 receptions for SGA.

Strong Group stumbled to its fifth straight defeat.
