AGENTS of the National Capital Region Field Unit (NCRFU) of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) late Thursday evening smashed an “online sabong (cockfighting)” ring in Parañaque City following an anti-illegal gambling raid which led in the arrest of eight persons, PNP-CIDG Director Major General Eliseo DC Cruz said yesterday.

The official said that three suspects were arrested for operating the online sabong hub located at Gate 1, Access Road of Multinational Village in Barangay Sto. Niño in Parañaque City.

The five suspects were also arrested in the same area for betting in a billiards’ game.

Maj. Gen. Cruz said that CIDG-NCRFU operatives under Col. Randy Glenn G. Silvio conducted the raid amid information that there was an illegal online sabong ring operated by one of the suspects with the help of several cohorts.

Col. Silvio said that a concerned citizen reported the illegal online sabong operations in their neighborhood despite the termination of the permit issued by PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) to the accused.

The official said that past 10:00 p.m. Thursday, members of the CIDG Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit, with the support of officers from the Southern Police District Mobile Force Battalion and the Parañaque City Police Station, conducted the raid, which resulted in the arrest of the eight.

Recovered during the operation were a LED television monitor, a cellphone, six cue sticks, two sets of billiard balls, and P2,460 cash bets.

The official added that they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to identify and file charges against the financiers of the raided online sabong hub.

All suspects now face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling.
