THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Security and Intelligence Service participated in a bomb simulation exercise at the Bicol International Airport this Saturday, January 20.

In the simulation, led by the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group, the roving guard duty informed CSIS of unattended baggage at the VIP Parking Area.

Immediately, the information was coordinated with the PNP AVSEU, and the area was cordoned off while waiting for the PNP EOD K9. The Special Operations unit then conducted a sniffing operation on the unattended bag and identified positive indications of explosive components.

BIA Area Manager Cynthia Tumanut mentioned that traffic in front of the departure area was well-coordinated, facilitated by CSIS during the simulation.

The drill was followed by a debriefing and concluded with a return to the normal flow of traffic at the airport.

In October last year, BIA experienced a bomb threat when an airline crew discovered a crumpled piece of paper inside the airplane restroom bearing a written bomb threat.

Such incidents underscore the critical role of the preparedness of authority in ensuring the safety of the passengers.
