THE Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) announced yesterday the holding of its 66th Annual National Council Meeting on May 10-12 at the Leyte Academic Center, Palo, Leyte.

With the theme “Sustaining Growth,” the event is an annual gathering of the National Council, the BSP’s highest policy-making body.

BSP National President and concurrent Agusan del Norte Representative Dale B. Corvera said Vice President Sara Duterte, also the mandated member of the National Executive Board, being the Secretary of Education, will attend the meeting as a special guest. He said Duterte will also be invested as a member of the board.

“After the postponement of the meeting in 2020, the holding of the virtual meeting in 2021, and blended meeting in 2022, due to the prevailing health threats, the BSP would return to face-to-face meeting with over 900 participants coming from different parts of the country,” Corvera said.

The National Council is composed of the members of the National Executive Board and the top three officials of BSP’s ten Regional offices and 124 Local Councils. The board also has three seats for Scout representatives (Senior Scouts) from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The top three officials of the Region and the Councils are the chairpersons and commissioners of the board, and the Regional Directors and the Council Executives. Also attending the meeting are the officials of the BSP National Office headed by the secretary general. The members of the National, Regional, and Council boards are all volunteers.

The council meets annually to receive the report of the National Treasurer and the National President, elect four new regular board members, amend, if necessary, BSP by-laws, conduct a court of honor for Scout leaders, and name winners of various searches for adult leaders.

An outstanding Council will receive the Lorillard Spencer Trophy. The trophy serves as the perpetual award to the BSP Local Council, obtaining the highest record of advancement, membership, and management.
