SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go, during a public hearing conducted by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, reiterated the need to focus on the problem of illegal drugs.

“Ang pangunahing layunin natin dito ay ang kapakanan at kaayusan ng publiko…Pinag-usapan po natin ang droga dito. Mas importante po itong problema ng droga sa ngayon,” said Go.

During the hearing, Go addressed an incident involving the escape of prisoners from a PDEA detention facility. He pressed PDEA Director General Virgilio Lazo for details: “Mr. Chair, nakarating po na ngayong araw na ito may report… na nakatakas daw ‘yung mga presong involved mula dito sa PDEA detention cell. Totoo po ba ito?”

Director General Lazo confirmed the escape, which is under investigation in collaboration with the Philippine National Police.

DG Lazo said, “what I got is that they could open the jail facility’s roofing. We were coming to the hearing, and I talked to our regional director. So I was… still don’t have so many details about the incident, Your Honor.”

In his remarks, Go highlighted the broader implications of such security breaches, linking them to the overarching issue of proper drug enforcement.

Go has been a staunch advocate for the anti-drug initiatives in the country. He expressed support to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s plan to establish a drug treatment and rehabilitation facility in each province by June 2028.

The senator also filed Senate Bill No. 428. This bill proposes the creation of a Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in each province across the country. These centers are envisioned not just as treatment facilities for drug dependents but also as comprehensive support hubs offering after-care, follow-up services, and social reintegration programs.
