A BROKENHEARTED youth offender was found hanging lifeless inside a temporary shelter for children with pending cases Wednesday evening in Malabon City.

The body of the 18-year-old victim was discovered by another youth offender, a 16-year-old boy, at around 8:30 p.m. at the second floor of the Bahay Pag-asa Shelter located along Langaray St. Brgy. Longos.

In his report to Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot, homicide investigator P/SSgt. Jeric Tindugan said the witness went to the second floor of the shelter to turn off the lights when he saw the body of the victim hanging with a blanket looped around his neck and the other end was tied at the beam ceiling of the corridor of the shelter building.

The witness sought the assistance of Emil Felipe, 33, security guard of the facility who untied the victim and rushed him to Lorenzo Ruiz Women and Children Hospital in Brgy. Santulan where he was declared dead upon arrival.

During the conduct of investigation, police learned from victim’s roommates and from other social workers of the shelter that the youth offender recently attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the rooftop of the building but was prevented by other Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).

Police also recovered victim’s cellular phone which contained messages addressed to his mother, informing his intention to commit suicide due to severe homesickness and feeling heartbroken after his girlfriend allegedly broke up with him.
