SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go, during a public hearing conducted by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, reiterated the need to focus on the bigger problem of illegal drugs that the country continues to face.

Go said this after he expressed his support for the Committee Chair Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s intention to keep the investigation free from politics.

“Ang pangunahing layunin natin dito ay ang kapakanan at kaayusan ng publiko…Pinag-usapan po natin ang droga dito. Mas importante po itong problema ng droga sa ngayon,” said Go.

The session focused on investigating the document leaks within the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

From the onset, Go, vice chairperson of the Committee, clarified the primary objective of the gathering: to unveil the full truth behind the allegations.

Go, who was also present during the previous hearing, reminded the resource persons present to respect the integrity of the Senate, saying “Kaya umaapela po ako dahil…sa ating mga resource persons na nandito ngayon, sabihin niyo lang po ang totoo. The truth only,” Go urged.

During the hearing, Go addressed a troubling incident involving the escape of prisoners from a PDEA detention facility. He pressed PDEA Director General Virgilio Lazo for details: “Mr. Chair, nakarating po na ngayong araw na ito may report… na nakatakas daw ‘yung mga presong involved mula dito sa PDEA detention cell. Totoo po ba ito?”

Director General Lazo confirmed the escape, which is under investigation in collaboration with the Philippine National Police.

DG Lazo said, “what I got is that they could open the jail facility’s roofing. We were coming to the hearing, and I talked to our regional director. So I was… still don’t have so many details about the incident, Your Honor.”

In his remarks, Go highlighted the broader implications of such security breaches, linking them to the overarching issue of proper drug enforcement.

“Habang pinag-uusapan natin dito itong isyu sa PDEA, meron pang malaking problema ang ating PDEA. Nahuli na, nakatakas pa,” stressed Go.
