Mapua-PH clobbers Thailand

INDONESIA — Mapua University brought down Thailand, 97-79, to register its second straight win in the Asean University Games basketball tournament at the Univesitas Negeri Surabaya Sports gym here.

Clint Salvoro Escamis and Marc Cyrus Cuenco provided the firepower for the Cardinals of coach Randy Alcantara and assistant coach Jay-Ar Carlos for another victoryin this short, five-team tournament.

Escamis, the Cardinals’ heart and soul, scattered a game-high 28 points while Cuenco added 17 points for Mapua, which is being supported by the Mapua community, headed by sports director Melchor Posadas Divina.

John Christopher Recto, Jeco Bancale, John Edward Jabonete also played well for the Cardinals as they combined for 34 points.

Recto contributed 14 points while Bancale and Jabonete had 10 points apiece for Mapua, which is also being supported by One United Mapua Alumni Association, led by Benedict Areolla and Allan Abarquez

Mapua earned the right to represent the Philippines in this prestigious tournament after bagging the crown in the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP)-organized Philippine University Basketball League (PUBL).

Mapua, which downed Malaysia, 93-79 in its opening game will gun for its third win when they face Singapore.

Takamn Sirijariyaporn topscored for Thailand with 18 points, followed by Emmanuel Ejesu with 15 points.

The Philippine delegation is being supported by Philippine Airlines, LT Group Inc, Healthy Options, Bakers Fair, Seascape Village, Bestank and PAGCOR. AA
