BATANGAS Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, Colonel Rainerio M. De Chavez, on Sunday, announced the arrest of 76 persons engaged in illegal gambling activities in the province amid their stepped-up drive versus all forms of unauthorized “number games.”

The official said that the arrests were made as a result of 52 anti-illegal gambling operations they conducted since he took over as the new Batangas police director last May 23.

De Chavez said that 34 of those operations led to the arrest of 42 men involved in illegal number games and the seizure of P25,887 in cash bets.

Another 18 operations resulted in the apprehension of 34 persons engaged in other forms of illegal gambling activities and the recovery of P7,907 in bet money.

Criminal charges for violation of the anti-illegal gambling law have been filed against the suspects.

The official said the arrest of the 76 resulted from their intensified campaign against all illegal gambling activities in the province as ordered by Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A director Brigadier General Carlito M. Gaces.
