Barangay chairman yields cache of guns, bullets

POLICE on Monday arrested a barangay captain after a raid in his house yielded a cache of firearms and bullets in Guimba, Nueva Ecija.

A report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr. identified the suspect as 71-year-old Gil Gamis, chairman of Sitio Medina, Bgy. San Miguel, Guimba, Nueva Ecija.

Joint operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Group 3, together with the 303rd Mobile Company Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3, Intelligence Section RMFB3, and Guimba police under the overall supervision of Lt. Col. Jay Dimaandal implemented a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms.

Seized were one M16 rifle, one carbine, nine magazine assembly loaded with 30 rounds of 5.56mm live bullets, nine pieces of magazine assembly loaded with 20 rounds of 5.56mm live bullets, one cal. .50 pistol with live bullets, a rifle granade, 24 live bullets for a cal. .22 gun, 51 live bullets for cal. .45 pistol, a flare gun, one bullet for cal. .9mm gun, two magazine assembly for carbine loaded with live ammunition for cal. .30 mm, 48 live bullets for cal. .30mm firearm, five empty shells for cal. .45 pistol, nine empty shells for cal. .38 SPL and 409 live bullets for cal. 5.56 gun.

Police said the suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
