JADE Talampas scored all of his 18 points in the second half as Arellano University stunned San Beda, 74-72, to halt a four-game slide in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Talampas drained three huge triples in the final period as the Chiefs posted their only second win in 10 games.

“Sa akin, talagang sinunod lang namin ‘yung sistema ni coach (Chico Manabat). Although silent kami nung first half, siguro dala lang ng frustrations namin ‘yun, then lahat ng hirap namin sa training ay nagbunga lang,” said Talampas, who also had six rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes of action.

The loss, the third in 10 games, put a dent to the Red Lions’ twice-to-beat bid in the Final Four.

San Beda, which saw Jacob Cortez struggle with two points, fell in a tie with Lyceum of the Philippines University in second spot.

Later, Ry dela Rosa had 19 points as Jose Rizal University moved to solo fourth with a 79-72 tripping of San Sebastian.

The Bombers now have a 7-4 record, half-a-game behind the Pirates and the Red Lions.

The Stags stumbled to a 3-8 card.
