A listening President

THE short-lived transport strike in the country has shown anew that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. is, without doubt, “a listening” Chief Executive.

And in the view of various sectors, particularly the commuting public, Mr. Marcos’ role in ending the strike “gave his administration another boost in the eyes of the public.”

Reports said that the drivers cut their weeklong strike after Marcos promised that the government would review the public utility vehicle modernization program.

The Ilocano Chief Executive was also reported to have said that no transport worker will be jobless once the state’s PUV modernization program is fully implemented.

At the same time, President Marcos thanked the protesting and striking drivers for heeding the call of the government to sit down and discuss their concerns and problems.

“I thank them (because) I think they felt (that) they have made their point very clearly that we need to scrutinize this (modernization program) well,” said the Chief Executive.

The willingness of the government to review the modernization program is ample proof that President Marcos is out to ensure the welfare of commuters, operators and drivers.

We also commend the transport leaders for acknowledging the importance of modernizing the country’s public utility vehicles – buses and jeepneys – for the sake of the commuters.

What’s needed is to review the implementation of the program to ensure that it would not bring difficulties to the members of the transportation sector, particularly the drivers.

Ang maganda dito ay nakikinig si Pangulong Marcos sa daing ng taumbayan.
