UNKNOWN to many, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is being supported by a national advisory group in ensuring the safety and welfare of the Filipino people.

Dubbed the National Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (NAGPTD), it is composed of more than 20,000 members from various sectors of society.

The advisers, who are known for their integrity, probity and excellent leadership, come from the academe, media, religious, business, youth and other private and public offices.

Likewise, the police advisers are advocates of transformation, accountability and transparency.

The group members have increased their numbers of a few thousands in September 2011 when they were first organized to more than 20,000 as of November this year.

The NAGPTD has remained steadfast and resolute in helping the PNP, which is civilian in nature but national in scope, in protecting and serving the country and the people.

To strengthen their partnership, the PNP and the 20,000-strong NAGPTD held this year’s two-day 8th National Advisory Group Summit at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

The gathering concluded last Friday, with PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia as keynote speaker.

It was attended by other top PNP officials and advisers from the national, regional, provincial, city and municipal police stations throughout the Philippines.

Doubtless, the police and its advisers deserve the support of the public as they work in unison for the benefit of the people, notably the unfortunate members of society.
