EJ Obiena’s sensational victory over Olympic gold medalist Armand “Mondo” Duplantis in pole vault in Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium and the coming “Super Sambo Fight” at the UP Town Center will be the topics of discussions in the 36th “Sports on Air” this Thursday, Sept. 8 via Zoom.

Emerson Obiena, father-coach of EJ Obiena, will discuss his son’s newest and biggest triumph in the sport during the 10:30 a.m. online sports program.

Obiena made history when he cleared 5.91 meters in three attempts to beat world No. 1 Duplantis (5.81 meters) and rule the tournament.

Obiena followed it up with a silver medal finish in the ISTAF Berlin tournament in Germany, cleared 5.81 meters behind Netherlands’ Meno Vloon (5.88 meters).

Sambo Pilipinas president Paolo Tancontian will talk about the first-ever “Super Sambo Fight” this coming October 2 at the UFC Gym in UP Town Center, Quezon City.

This international sambo competition is going to feature the finest Sambo athletes training under the Philippine National Team that will vie against rated Asian contenders.

Pilipinas Sambo will also conduct a Referees’ Seminar on Oct. 1.

This will be the 36th episode of “Sports On Air”, the hottest and most comprehensive sports talk show on air
