Ecija cop is PNP’s 126th COVID-19 fatality
CABANATUAN CITY — A 38-year-old police officer from Nueva Ecija became the 126th fatality of the Philippine National Police due to COVID-19, it was reported.
The victim, a staff sergeant assigned to the Jaen Municipal Police, died at the Nueva Ecija Medical Center on January 14 due to complications from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Although fully vaccinated, he was immuno-compromised with high comorbidity. According to his wife, the police officer was undergoing dialysis due to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
His death from COVID-19 was the PNP’s first recorded fatality since November 9 last year.
“He was also on work-from-home status since the start of the pandemic, however, on January 13 while on their way to the hospital for his scheduled dialysis, he lost consciousness. He was then rushed to the NEMC and was diagnosed with stroke and declared brain-dead. Laboratory tests also revealed that he was positive for COVID-19,” said PNP Chief General Dionardo B. Carlos.
As of January 19, the PNP recorded 503 recoveries among the infected personnel bringing the total recoveries to 42,550 while 323 new cases were noted raising the number of total cases to 46,291 with 3,615 active cases.
The latest PNP data showed that at least 217,034 or 96.33 percent of the entire police force have been fully vaccinated with 60,664 or 27.95 percent already getting their booster shots. With Steve A. Gosuico
