Dengue cases in QC dropped
FOLLOWING a significant decline in the number of dengue cases, the Quezon City government has cleared 123 barangays from the outbreak status.
According to the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division of the QC Health Department, a sharp 90 percent drop or 626 cases have been recorded with only 64 (cases) being monitored as of April 2 to 8.
This notable decrease in numbers has been attributed to the administration’s intensified multi-stakeholder effort to control the illness from further surging.
A total of 19 barangays remain within the epidemic threshold, although only specific areas are still affected.
Mayor Joy Belmonte said that “this continued decrease in dengue cases is very encouraging”, but it is not a reason for her leadership to be complacent.
“The changing climate – especially the unexpected rains during summer – means that water can easily accumulate in uncovered containers, creating breeding grounds for dengue-carrying misquotes,” she pointed out.
To address this, the city continues to conduct targeted interventions in these areas, including intensified clean-up drives, fogging and spraying and larviciding in zones where dengue cases are clustered.
