THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) said new immigration inspectors are currently undergoing training at the BI academy in Clark and will be deployed on or after Dec. 11 in different airports.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said a total of 38 immigration officers, immigration assistants, administrative aides and officers and fingerprint examiners are currently housed in the Philippine Immigration Academy (PIA) inside the Clark Freeport Zone.

The new batch is set to graduate on December 11 and are expected to be immediately deployed after their graduation.

The immigration officers are set to be deployed in the frontlines in time for Christmas, while the other trainees will serve as acting immigration officers for augmentation teams.

The new hires come from the latest batch of personnel hired by the agency to maximize its workforce.

Apart from lectures on Philippine immigration laws and policies, the training also focuses on soft skills training to ensure that frontliners provide better service to the traveling public.

“After the issues we have encountered, we saw the need to up soft skills training wherein our frontliners are trained in communication, customer service, and conflict resolution,” said Tansingco.

“This allows for a more holistic training, which we hope would significantly improve our services,” he stated.
