NINETY-NINE Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel were among the 8,241 who passed the 2020-2021 Bar examinations conducted last February amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

PNP Chief General Dionardo B. Carlos said that of the 99 new lawyers from the PNP, 20 are police commissioned officers, 62 are police non-commissioned officers, and 17 are non-uniformed personnel.

A total of 11,402 took the recent bar exam with 8,241 or 72.28% passing the first-ever digitalized and regionalized examinations held last February 4 and 6 in 31 testing sites across the country.

Gen. Carlos welcomed the 99 in a fitting ceremony at Camp Crame where 15 of them are assigned.

“Ahead of their official induction as members of the Philippine Bar on May 2 as scheduled, the PNP is fortunate to have 99 more Officers of the Court in our ranks who can ably provide legal services and assistance to PNP Line Units in law enforcement operations,” the PNP chief said.

He said that the 99’s legal assistance will also be needed in the forthcoming May 9 National and Local Elections when the PNP will require the services of lawyers to provide legal representation and assist PNP units in the interpretation of applicable laws to enforce election rules.

“We encourage other personnel to take interest [in advanced learning] in law as a career development opportunity,” the PNP chief said.

Gen. Carlos also instructed the PNP Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development and the PNP Legal Service to find more ways how they can better support and extend assistance to PNP personnel currently taking up law and other related courses of higher learning.
