AUTHORITIES arrested five Vietnamese Nationals involved in extorting money from their compatriot in an entrapment operation Wednesday in Makati City.

Southern Police District (SPD) P/BGen. Kirby John Kraft said operatives of the Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) of Makati City Police arrested Thai Huy Tuan, 28, Phan Huu Dat, 25, Nguyen Ly Huynh, 30, Phan Van Thanh, 28, all working at Jinzhou Technologies, a foreign company that operates in the electric power generation sector and Tran Trung Tuyen, 34, employed at PBCOM Tower in an entrapment operation at around 1:30 a.m. along Leviste St. Salcedo Village, Brgy. Bel-Air.

In his report to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director P/MGen. Jonnel Estomo, complainant Do Mahn Tuan sought the assistance of elements of IDMS at 11:30 p.m. on Monday after he received a call and text message from the suspects, threatening him and his family that they will be kidnapped if he failed to produce P100,000.00 they demanded from him.

The complainant told police that earlier on December 22, the suspects forcibly held him in custody for three hours inside the VIP Room of Yakale Restaurant in Yakal St. Brgy. San Antonio and was only released after he agreed to pay P250,000.00 which prompted the police to conduct an entrapment operation.

The complainant, upon the instruction of lawmen, agreed to meet the suspects at the Island Plaza in Leviste Street bringing with him marked money to be used in an entrapment operation.

When the suspects received the marked money, operatives of IDMS quickly acted and arrested the Vietnamese Nationals and recovered from them the marked money and two butchers knife from Thai Huy Tuan.

BGen. Kraft said the suspects are presently detained at Makati Police Station Custodial Facility pending the filing of charges for Robbery Extortion before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.
