POLICE Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) Director Brigadier General Bernard M. Banac reported the surrender of two New People’s Army (NPA) members in Northern Samar last Wednesday morning.

In a report to Philippine National Police Officer-in-Charge (PNP-OIC), Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr., the Eastern Visayas Police director, said that the two suspects also turned over a caliber .45 pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, and several live ammunition to the 1st Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Brig. Gen. Banac identified the two only as “Ka Syete” and “Ka Onyok”, both active members of the NPA movement operating in the island provinces of Samar.

He said the two yielded in Bgy. Somoroy in Lope de Vega municipality in Northern Samar following weeks of negotiation with local policemen.

The two were the latest NPA members in Eastern Visayas to leave the movement and “air” their decision to return to the mainstream of the society and earn a living for their families as they had long been “tired of fighting the government.”

“Through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program or ‘E-CLIP’ of the government, we are continuously promoting social reintegration by providing livelihood assistance to our former rebels and also to encourage other remaining CTGs (communist terrorist groups) to return into the fold of the law and live peacefully in the community together with their families,” Lt. Gen. Danao said as he congratulated the PRO8 for their continuing effort to convince more rebels to surrender to the government.

The two were placed under the custody of the 1st Northern Samar PMFC while their E-CLIP papers were being processed, said Brig. Gen. Banac.
