3 held for selling fake cigarettes worth P37K in Cabanatuan

CABANATUAN CITY — Two female vendors and another cohort were nabbed after they were caught while allegedlh selling illegally-manufactured cigarettes worth about P37,000 at their grocery store in the Sangitan Market here on Sunday.

Nueva Ecija provincial police director Col. Jaime O. Santos in a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon identified thoe arrested as vendors Yolanda Lamar, 52, of Pruok Camachile, Bgy. Pangatian; Brendalyn Japones, 22, of Purok 1, Bgy. Antipolo, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija; and Marlon Joson, 42, of 112 Purok 3, Bgy. Vijandre, this city.

The suspects were nabbed by a composite team of the Special Concerns Unit-PRO3, and the Cabanatuan police inside the Sangitan Market along Cecilio Street in Bgy. Magsaysay Norte at 10:25 a.m. here.

Seized from the grocery stall were 77 packs of Two Moon cigarettes, 38 packs of D&B cigarettes, 24 packs of Champion, three packs of Union, and 58 cases of assorted cigarettes with an estimated street value of P36,950.

City police head Lt. Col. Julius Ceasar Manucdoc said the illegally manufactured cigarettes were when the suspects failed to present the necessary permits and documents for the goods.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 are being readied for filing against the suspects.
