2 ex-OFWs tagged as illegal recruiters nabbed

GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – A man and his live-in partner tagged as illegal recruiters on Thursday were arrested in separate manhunt operations conducted by the police in this town.

In his report to Nueva Ecija top cop Col. Richard V. Caballero, town police head Lt. Col. Ranny G. Casilla stated that arrested were a 47-year-old widower, and his cohort, a 42-year-old widow, both of Bgy. Camiing, ths municipality.

Casilla said the two suspects are live-in partners and former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have allegedly duped about 20 victims.

“Parang ahente lang sila. Nag-start sila last year. Sila ang identified kasi sila ang humaharap sa tao, sila ang tumatanggap ng perang ibinibigay sa recruiter,” Casilla told the Journal Group.

The duo was also accused of duping their victims of P10,000 each in supposed medical fees.

“Nakasuhan sila dahil gustong mabawi ng tao ‘yung binayad nila,” added the police official.

The live-in partners were nabbed based on an arrest warrant for large-scale illegal recruitment or violation of Republic Act No. 8042 (Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995) issued by Presiding Judge Rosita L. Dela Fuente-Torres of Guimba Regional Trial Court Branch 31 on April 17, 2024, with no bail recommended.

Casilla said the female suspect was the first to be apprehended in Bgy. Faigal at 10:25 a.m. on Thursday followed by her alleged partner in Bgy. Camiing at 11:30 a.m..

Both suspects are now locked up in jail for proper disposition.
