THE Department of Education (DepEd) said 19.18% of the total 27 million learners are fully vaccinated for Covid as classes for School Year (SY) 2022 open on Monday, August 22.

Data from DepEd showed that fully vaccinated learners are 19.18% or 5,285,437, while learners with the first vaccine dose are 20.55% or 5,663,984.

Around 92.11% of teaching and non-teaching staff are vaccinated.

Figures are based on official enrollment last year SY 2021-2022, according to DepEd.

“Please highlight that this is a moving number. Once the information system is updated, figures may increase,” Atty. Michael Poa, DepEd spokesperson, told reporters in a Viber message.

Unvaccinated teachers will be allowed to report to schools and hold in-person classes physically.

But they must strictly follow minimum public health protocols like wearing face masks and if the schools have proper ventilation.

However, teachers and other school personnel who exhibit flu-like symptoms are encouraged to stay home and have themselves tested for said disease.

The DepEd has already coordinated with the Department of Health (DOH) to have a joint memorandum circular in schools and continue counseling with the parents to convince them to vaccinate their children against COVID-19, including the parents.
