GOVERNMENT intelligence agents captured a leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Iloilo City last Tuesday, Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Sydney N. Villaflor said Friday.

The suspect, Ka Sherra, tagged as a former political guide of the Regional Sentro de Grabidad of the CPP/NPA Kilusang Rehiyon Panay, was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act, said the police official.

Brig. Gen. Villaflor said that members of the Tapaz Municipal Police Station led the issuance of the warrant of arrest against the accused with the assistance of officers from the Regional Intelligence Division, the Capiz Provincial Police Office and the Military Intelligence Group.

A record check showed that the suspect was first arrested for coddling a fellow NPA identified as Ka Mig/Joan/Ronron who had six standing warrants of arrest.

The suspect however was ordered released by an Iloilo prosecutor’s office for alleged ‘questionable reasons’ behind the arrest.

Brig. Gen. Villaflor said they are readying charges against persons believed to have committed lapses in ordering the release of the accused who is now being held at the Tapaz police lock-up facility.
