Women leaders honored at Lady Local Legislators gathering
IN celebration of Women’s Month, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go joined the Lady Local Legislators’ League (Four-L) of the Philippines 2025 National Assembly on Sunday, March 2, at Novotel Manila in Quezon City, where he commended the invaluable contributions of women in governance and nation-building.
The event, with the theme “Women Leadership: Recognizing the Power of Women in Nation Building,” gathered around 200 lady legislators, including vice governors, sangguniang panlalawigan members, sangguniang panlungsod members, sangguniang bayan members, sangguniang barangay, and sangguniang kabataan chairpersons.
In his address, Go lauded the dedication and leadership of women lawmakers, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping policies, fostering inclusive governance, and strengthening communities.
“You are superstars in your own right. Pare-pareho po tayo, hinalal po tayo. Kaya unahin natin ‘yung kapakanan ng ating kababayan. Ako po, mataas po ang respeto ko sa inyo. And of course, mataas ang respeto ko sa kababaihan,” he said.
Acknowledging the leadership role of women in Filipino households, he said: “Kayo naman talaga nasusunod kapag sa bahay. Kaya kayo tinatawag na commander pagdating sa bahay dahil totoo naman po.”
As a re-electionist senator, Go reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for policies that uplift women. He assured the attendees that if given a fresh mandate, he will continue to champion their causes and provide stronger support for initiatives that promote the welfare of Filipino women.
Go has been a staunch advocate of women’s welfare, backing legislative measures as he is one of the authors and co-sponsors of RA 11861, which amended RA 8972, or the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act to grant additional benefits to solo parents, most of whom are women.
Senator Go took the opportunity to acknowledge the hardworking officers of the Lady Local Legislators’ League of the Philippines, led by Vice Governor Christine Garin of Iloilo Province as President, along with Councilor Kate Abigael Coseteng of the 3rd District of Quezon City as Executive Vice President, Board Member Mila Lauigan of the 3rd District of Cagayan as Secretary General, Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon of Siquijor Province as Treasurer, Vice Governor Glenda Ong Bongao of Albay Province as Public Relations Officer, Vice Governor Maricar Sison Goteesan of Eastern Samar Province as Vice President for Visayas, and Board Member Charina “Lovely” Izquierdo-Isahac of the 1st District of Sulu as Vice President for Mindanao.
The Lady Local Legislators’ League of the Philippines continues to empower women in government, advocating for policies that promote gender equality, good governance, and inclusive leadership across all levels of society.
