WOMEN’s basketball takes center stage once again as the 54th season of the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Chiang Kai Shek College.

With the theme, “WNCAA: Reignites @54”, the country’s premier women’s sports league hopes to continue to make a big difference in women’s basketball after being limited by the pandemic in the previous years.

“Expect bigger and better WNCAA as we looks to reignite for our season 54. This season, we will be better, if we were still not the best before,” said WNCAA chairperson Maria Vivian Manila during the media launch at the Chiang Kai Shek College.

“During the years we had this pandemic, WNCAA continued its league through virtual competitions. Only the skills for event were judged. Last year was the first face to face competition for WNCAA with SSCM as the host. Still, some players of some schools failed to join some events as their parents were still scared of the COVID pandemic. So today we will reignite.”

Ma. Angelica Dela Cruz of San Beda College-Alabang assured all 16 member- schools are again ready to give their best in different sports events in the calendar.

“We will restart the WNCAA torch to light up again to the fullest. Let the women be empowered in sports again like in the past seasons with 16 member schools vying to win, in the different sports events,” said Dela Cruz.

“We would like to thank Chiang Kai Shek College through its very supportive president Dr. Judelio Yap for allowing us to use their gymnasium as venue for the opening ceremony,” she added

“As you know, Chiang Kai Shek College is one of the founding members of WNCAA. So no matter what, we will fully support the WNCAA in all its needs,” said Chiang Kai Shek president Dr. Judelio Yap.

Yap also administered the oath of office to the WNCAA 54th Season Executive Council composed of Juanita Alamillo, PhD (Centro Escolar University), Vice President Arvin Anthony Flores (La Salle College Antipolo), Dolores Fernandez (Assistant Secretary), Treasurer Yolando Co (Chiang Kai Shek College), Assistant Treasurer Wilson Ngo (St. Stephen’s High School), Auditor Sherwin Tiu (St. Jude Catholic School) and Rene Ledesman (Trustee).

The participating schools are Assumption Antipolo, Assumption College, CEU, CKSC, De La Salle Zobel, LSCA, Miriam College, Philippine Women’s University, SBCA, SJCA, St. Paul College Pasig, St. Scholastica’s College, St. Stephen’s High School, University of Asia & the Pacific and University of Sto.
