More than pride and glory, this is what’s in store for any Filipino athlete or athletes who will bring home the gold from the Tokyo Olympics.
Business tycoon Ramon S. Ang has sweetened the pot for the forthcoming Games by tossing in an additional P10 million for every gold in Tokyo.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino made the announcement during yesterday’s online Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
Sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan through the MVP Sports Foundation had earlier announced an additional P10 million for every gold, P5 million for silver and P2 million for bronze.
“Now RSA is giving the same amount,” said Tolentino.
With the original cash incentives from the government, a gold medal in Tokyo is now worth a staggering P30 million, silver P15 million and bronze P6 million.
“I expect more to come once the gold is delivered. It may even reach P50 million,” Tolentino told the forum presented by San Miguel Corporation (SMC), MILO, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
Tolentino has also dangled a brand-new house and lot for every athlete who will win the gold.
Again, the POC president expressed full confidence that the Philippines will end the gold medal drought in the Olympics in Tokyo next month.
Tolentino said the 19 athletes who will represent the country are determined and highly motivated to win the gold.
“Definitely. This is our time. We’ll win that gold as one,” he said.
