POLICE in Western Visayas arrested and put to jail 173 wanted persons while 145 illegal guns and explosives were seized in anti-criminality operations from December 11 to 17, Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Sydney N. Villaflor said Thursday.

“This is part of our week-long simultaneous anti-criminality operations dubbed ‘Birada Semana’ from December 11-17,” the official said.

Villaflor said that during the week-long anti-crime drive all over Western Visayas, they launched 17 operations which led in the arrest of the 173 suspects, 28 of them categorized as Most Wanted Persons while the rest belong to the list of Other Wanted Persons.

He said that during the same period, they conducted 60 anti-illegal drug operations which led in the arrest of 78 drug personalities and the confiscation of some 7.2 kilograms of shabu valued at nearly P49 million and P4,000 worth of dried marijuana leaves.

He added that they also accounted for 17 violators of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 during the same period.

Recovered from the possession of the suspects were 130 firearms of different calibers and 15 explosives.

Villaflor said a total of 33 anti-illegal gambling operations were conducted by his men which led in the arrest of 131 persons and the recovery of nearly P23,000 in cash bets.
