Waves, Martinez resume winning ways
THE Phuket Waves continued their winning ways in the Thailand Basketball League (TBL).
And Filipino sensation James Martinez is only too happy to be a part of it.
Martinez dazzled fans anew as he contributed 27 points and an astonishing 17 assists as Phuket Waves outplayed Pathum Thani Pythons, 105-80, at the Multipurpose Building,Office of The Permanent Secretary for Defence.
Having recorded a triple-double in their previous game against Khon Kaen Kings MFT Fruitmasters, Martinez is showing no signs of slowing down and helping the Waves chalk up their sixth win in eight outings.
But it was not all Martinez for the Phuket Waves.
Morakinyo Michael William erupted with a monstrous double-double with 31 points and 24 rebounds in 40 minutes on the floor.
Raymond Edward Miller was equally instrumental in the Waves’ victory, putting up a strong all-around performance as he tallied 22 points, 28 rebounds, six blocks, and three steals.
Hernal Esconio chipped in with 17 points for the Phuket Waves.
The Phuket Waves’ 6-2 win-loss record demonstrates their consistency and determination to dominate the TBL.
Actually, the Pathum Thani Pythons put up a valiant effort, but their three players who scored in double digits could not match the overwhelming firepower of the Waves.
Sarion John Lashawn McGee led the Pythons’ scoring charge with 39 points and 14 rebounds, putting up an impressive individual performance despite the team’s loss.
Brian Robert Garrett and Apisittinan Lane Dasom also contributed 15 and 11 points, respectively Martinez’s father, Danilo, was visibly happy with his son’s impressive performances.
“James is also happy, (playing head coach) about the trust given to him by the management,” said Danilo Martinez, father of the former San Beda College and University of the East standout.
