ALYSSA Valdez, the proud daughter of Batangas, was very delighted to play in front of her provincemates after five years.

Although she only played in the second set as a substitute, Valdez contributed three points in Creamline’s 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 win over Cignal as the reigning Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference holders gain a share of the lead Saturday night at the Batangas City Sports Center.

A native of San Juan town, Valdez has a lot of memories for the Cool Smashers in Batangas.

The last time the PVL played in this province was on Dec. 8, 2018, when Creamline beat Ateneo-Motolite, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15, to complete a 20-0 sweep of the Reinforced Conference.

“Oh wow. We are very happy that we were able to go back here again in Batangas after the pandemic. Last time we are here was before the pandemic,” said Valdez.

“It’s so nice to win din kasi iba pa rin ang nananalo sa hometown mo. Extra motivation din for me, most especially na nakapaglaro ulit sa harap nila and it humbles me every time I go back here talaga. Maaalaala mo talaga kung saan ka nagsimula,” she added.

“It’s nice to bring back those memories at the start of the season.”

Prior to the game, Valdez was honored by Batangas 5th District Rep. Marvey Mariño together with PetroGazz setter Ivy Perez.

“Grateful. It feels like I never left Batangas rin talaga. Hindi ganoong katagal ang pagbalik dito. Napakainit ng pagtanggap nila,” said Valdez, whose parents watched the match.

Michele Gumabao put up a show for the Cool Smashers with 20 points while Tots Carlos contributed 10 points, eight digs and eight receptions.

Creamline is now tied with Chery Tiggo and PetroGazz on top of the standings after the first week at 2-0.
