Trafficking

Undesirable aliens

IF FILIPINOS continue to be victimized by foreign human traffickers, blame it partly on the presence of undesirable aliens in the country.

These unscrupulous foreigners, men and women, work in unison with local human traffickers, masquerading as “job recruiters.”

But to the credit of the government, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has intensified its campaign against questionable foreigners.

Last month, the bureau, headed by Commissioner Norman Tansingco, denied the entry into the Philippines a total of 220 aliens.

The number included 150 Vietnamese, 30 Chinese and 14 Indonesians, according to a statement issued by the agency last Monday.

Under immigration laws, rules and regulations the names of foreigners denied entry into the country are placed in the BI blacklist.

And those in the blacklist are barred from re-entering this bastion of democracy in this part of the world.

We often hear reports of victims of greedy foreign and local job recruiters. There are also reports of OFWs returning home penniless and battered.

Thus, everytime, BI bars undesirable aliens from entering the country, many sectors of society, including overseas jobseekers, applaud.

Indeed, the presence of unscrupulous foreigners in impoverished Philippines remains a headache of government authorities and the public.
