STA, ROSA, Nueva Ecija – Nueva Ecija Governor Aurelio M. Umali had asked why the bodies of two persons who were killed in nearby Cabanatuan City recently were “immediately cremated” when an investigation of an alleged crime was still being undertaken.

He then asked members of Nueva Ecija Press Club Inc. to “seek the truth” and expose any “violent incident” that occurred in the province in the “interest of justice and fair play.”

“Katulad nang nangyari na may napatay ata na lalaki at babae sa Aduas (Cabanatuan City) kaso bakit [ini-cremate] agad, dapat iyan ay iniimbestigahan, crime po ito eh, eh bakit [ini-cremate] agad, baka may itinatago. Dapat po ilabas natin para maintindihan,” said Umali during his weekly “Usapang Malasakit sa Lipunan” teleradio program at the GRAMCO Studio here on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.

“When you impede justice, iyan po ay masakit na katotohanan, you know i-impede mo ang justice gagawa ka ng istorya parang moro-moro eh,” the governor added.

When asked about the alleged incident, the Nueva Ecija Police, however, reported that it involved an alleged “suicide incident.”

The police report said: “On or about 10:20 a.m. February 17, 2023, a telephone call received by Cabanatuan City police station coming from [a] barangay official of Aduas Centro informing an alleged suicide incident at Purok 2, No.123 Clamonte St., Bgy. Aduas Centro, Cabanatuan City.”

“Initial investigation revealed that on 7:00 a.m., February 17, 2023 the lifeless body of one (1) female, 51-year-old, single; and one (1) male, 25-year-old, male, house helper, and both stay-in residents at said place, who both sustained gunshots wound, were found lying inside the bedroom. Visible evidence at the scene was one (1) short firearm with still unknown caliber.”

As of press time, the police said an investigation is still ongoing.
