TWO senators said they are comfortable to speak in “Tagalog” rather than the English language as they prefer to use it during hearings and other official events in the Senate.

Senator Robinhood Padilla maintained his strong stand to use Tagalog instead of English in any floor deliberations.

Padilla will continue to use Filipino during hearings and other official events in the Senate.

“Opo, hindi na ako magpapanggap. Mahirap magpapanggap kang si Webster,” Padilla told Senate reporters .

Padilla has filed a bill seeking the use of Filipino and English as official languages in official government documents.

However, Padilla said he will continue to adjust to the use of English in Senate functions, including reading the journal and having his staff brief him on what happened during the previous day’s session.

For his part, Senator Raffy Tulfo said he prefers Tagalog or Filipino when debating with other senators in the Senate.

Tulfo stressed he is comfortable using Tagalog since many of his viewers and subscribers as well as those who voted for him are well-versed in our own native tongue.

The TV anchor-turned-senator said he can actually do both Tagalog and English but his preference is to use the Filipino language.

“Bakit ako mag i English spokening kung hindi naman maiintindihan ng mga nagluklok sa atin. Binoto nila ako para maintindihan nila anong nangyayari. Besides, I will be facing Filipino legislators, not Americans. Mas gusto natin mag Tagalog,” Tulfo said.
