Trump-Marcos meeting?
THE Philippines remains as one of the closest allies of the United states in the Asia-Pacific region.
That’s why it is not surprising to hear reports saying US President Donald Trump may visit the country this year.
These reports, without doubt, excite no end the Filipino people, including those in foreign lands.
Like other small countries, the Philippines needs the help of the US and other allies.
In fact, the country continues to be harassed by the Chinese, who claimed almost the entirety of the mineral resources-rich West Philippine Sea.
Although the Philippines is a small country, it is determined to protect its territories with the help of friends in the international community.
Trump’s visit to the Philippines may come after the Manila visit of US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez said Hegseth is set to fly to advance security objectives with Philippine leaders.
Likewise, the American defense official is set to meet with US and Filipino forces.
Note that there are American forces in several EDCA sites in the Philippines, including those in Northern Luzon.
