PNP ‘intel packets’ collar 9 crime suspects

PNPINTELLIGENCE packets’ provided by the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG) led to the capture of seven wanted persons and two Japanese fugitives, a report to PNP chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil said.

“This is part of our ongoing effort to help account for most wanted criminals and terrorists in the country as ordered by Gen. Marbil and PNP Director for Intelligence, Major Gen. Westrimundo D. Obnque,” said PNP-IG director Colonel Frankie C. Candelario.

The official said that last March 8, Regional Intelligence Unit 5 agents arrested Francisco Gaspi alias Iko, 52, a member of the Bicol Regional Party Committee of the New People’s Army wanted for rebellion.

The suspect is wanted for his involvement in the harassment, ambush and killing of government troops in Bicol region and was also identified as being involved in an attack at the Matnog police station in 2017.

The suspect was arrested in Brgy. Bariis, Matnog, according to the report.

Also arrested was Jaime Arsulon alias Omek/Roger, 56, a member of the NPA’s Kilusang Larangan Gerilya South.

Col. Candelario said that the suspect was arrested in Sitio Pasto in Brgy. Libertad, Cawayan, Masbate last March 10 by members of the RIU5, the PRO-5 and the Army’s 2ndInfantry Battalion.

The suspect is the subject of a warrant of arrest for two counts of murder.

He is also being probed for his role in an explosion in Purok 5 in Brgy. Anas, Masbate City on June 6, 2021.

The RIU4 last March 12 provided the information that resulted in the capture of 51-year old Arnold Tumbali alias Diway/Freddie/Actor, a former vice squad leader of the NPA’s Kilusan Larangang Gerilya Baggas.

He is wanted for four counts of frustrated murder case with a total recommended bail of P800,000.

The RIU13, on the other hand, provided the ‘intel packet’ that resulted in the capture of Roxanne Tejero alias Menchie last March 13 in Sitio Latay, Brgy. Marfil, Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

Identified as a former member of the NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee operating in Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte, the 35-year-old suspect is the subject of six separate warrants of arrest, said Col. Candelario.

The PNP-IG’s Intelligence and Special Operations Division also led the capture of Ana Hangadona alias Catherine/Cyril, a 33-year-old member of the dismantled Guerilla Front 88 of the CPP/NPA’s North Central Mindanao Regional Committee last March 6 in Brgy. Lower Doongan, Butuan City.

The suspect was arrested on the basis of a warrant for attempted murder issued by the Bayugan City RTC Branch 7.

Col. Candelario said his men also developed the ‘intelligence packets’ that resulted in the arrest of crime gang leader Joel Beraña in Brgy. Munting Parang in Tagkawayan, Quezon; Japanese national Natsuki Kimura alias Yuri Bacalla and Arnel Baguisi alias Nico Cruz Garcia.

Beraña, 64, was arrested March 15 on the strength of a non-bailable warrant for murder issued by the Calauag, Quezon RTC Branch 63.

The suspect is the alleged leader of the Beraña Criminal Group, a PNP-DI-listed crime syndicate involved in gun-for-hire activities in Quezon province.

Kimura was arrested last March 14 along Ayala Avenue in Makati City by combined personnel of the PNP-IG Foreign Intelligence and Liaison Division, the RIU 10 and RIU-National Capital Region, the Makati City Police Station and the Fugitive Search Unit of the Bureau of Immigration.

The 33-year old Japanese woman is the subject of a warrant of deportation issued by the BI relative to the arrest warrant issued against her by Judge Michiharu Wakimoto of the Tokyo Summary Court.

The PNP-IG operatives were joined by the BI-FSU, the Police Regional Office 3 and the Makati City Police in arresting the suspect based on a warrant issued by Judge Yajima Yuichi of the Tokyo Summary Court.

Also the subject of a BI summary deportation order, the accused reportedly escaped arrest during an anti-illegal POGO operation in Cambodia in 2023 before fleeing to Manila. Interpol and Japanese police representatives also assisted in placing the suspect under arrest.

On the other hand, Baguisi was arrested last March 5 in Brgy. Panipuan, San Fernando City, Pampanga by members of the RIU-NCR, the Makati CPS and the Pampanga PPO.

The suspect is the subject of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder.

Col. Candelario said that the suspect is a dismissed cop wanted for the killing of one Bernardino Cristobal in Makati City on February 8, 2006.

The Department of Interior and Local Government put up a P200,000 cash reward for the capture of the suspect in 2009.
