
Toledo stays perfect
TOLEDO-Xignex Trojans asserted their supremacy in the 2025 PCAP All-Filipino Conference, posting back-to-back victories over the Mindoro Tamaraws, 21-0, and Zamboanga Sultans, 19.5-1.5, recently.
Ellan Asuela, Joel Banawa, Cherry Ann Mejia, Edgardo Garma, Allan Pason, Diego Caparino and Christopher Tubalado delivered for the Trojans as they swept their respective opponents from boards one to seven in both blitz and rapid matches.
The Trojans nearly duplicated the feat against the Sultans in the second match, but Nathan Cornellia upset Caparino and Michael Angelo Carmina drew with Tubalado to avert a shutout.
Overall, the Atty. Jeah Gacang-managed Trojans have perfect score of seven wins and 129 points.
A distant second with a 6-1 win-loss record and 95.5 points are the Bacolod Blitzers, who outclassed Iloilo Kisela Knights, 14-7, and TFCC LP Bamboo Knights, 20-1.
Leading Bacolod’s charge were Edwin Tan, Eden Tumbos, Ted Ian Montoyo and Romeo Sadia, who completed 3-0 sweeps over their respective rivals from Iloilo.
Also making their presence felt were Iriga Oragons, who defeated Camarines Soaring Eagles, 13.5-7.5, and Iloilo Kislea Knights, 12-9, to move up to third place with 5-2 record.
Iriga was led by Alji Cantonjos, who blanked Chin Lim, 3-0; Jovert Valenzuela, who upset Ronald Llavanes, 2-1; and Isabel Palobino, who edged Virgenie Ruaya, 2-1;
IM Angelo Young made short work of Roger Pesimo, 3-0 , to lead Camarines.
Camarines recovered from the sixth- round setback to Iriga with a 14.5-6.5 victory over Mindoro Tamaraws to keep fourth place with a 4-3 slate.
PCAP, the country’s first and only professional chess league, is headed by President-Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria, and Chairman Michael Angelo Chua.
