Time to act

IT is time to step up the pressure on local government units (LGUs) to fully support national government efforts to hasten the country’s socio-economic development.

In the view of many quarters, local government authorities play key roles in the implementation of programs, projects and initiatives of President Marcos’ administration.

The success of national government undertakings depends on the support of these public servants, including the overworked but underpaid barangay officials and employees.

And why should the national government need the help of LGUs and barangays in the implementation of its programs aimed at improving the lot of the Filipino people?

“Kasi ang mga lokal at barangay official ang nakakaalam kung ano ang totoong nangyayari sa kani-kanilang mga komunidad,” according to a former village treasurer.

Tapping the services of these government authorities is seen to ensure the spread of the many benefits right down to far-flung communities throughout the Philippines.

Without doubt, dispersing the benefits of growth to all the country’s regions is a move in the right direction.

That’s why there is that need to elect deserving and highly-dedicated barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, according to seasoned political observers.

The country’s electorate goes to the polls anew on October 30, 2023 for the twice-postponed village and youth elections.

We, thus, call on the Filipino people to the help the Commission on Elections in ensuring that the forthcoming twin-elections will be free, honest and credible.
