SPD lauded over arrest of convenience store robbers

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office director Major General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. yesterday lauded officers and men of the Southern Police District responsible for the arrest of four armed suspects in a series of robbery-holdups on convenience stores in Metro Manila.

“The arrest of these four individuals and the confiscation of firearms and explosives is a testament to our intensified intelligence operations and strict follow-up operations to arrest violators of the law,” said the NCRPO chief as he commended the SPD personnel led by Brigadier Gen. Mark D. Pespes for launching the ‘intelligence-driven operations’ which netted the four.

SPD operatives arrested the accused along the Romantic Village in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig City. last March 8.

According to the official, operatives of the SPD District Special Operations Unit and the Taguig City Police Station were behind the arrest of the four suspects tagged as responsible for a series of heists in various 24-hour convenience stores in Las Piñas City and other nearby areas.

First to be arrested was Anthony Mungas Gayas alias’ Salbahe,’ 30, of Bgy. Sta. Ana, Taguig City who was tagged as the leader of the robbery-holdup group.

The suspect was positively identified by the victims as one of the armed men who held them up. The CCTV footage also showed the accused hitting a cashier in one of the two convenience stores.

Three other men identified as construction workers Aga Mercado,23; and Mark Madrona, 39; and Alex Pataksil,40, were arrested for trying to prevent the arrest of Gayas.
