WITH the recent bed bug incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ron P. Salo, Chairperson of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, on Friday urged immediate action to address the issue and ensure the safety of all passengers, particularly our Filipino migrant workers and balikbayans.

The presence of bed bugs within the airport premises is deeply concerning that it needs an immediate and decisive action. “I call upon NAIA management, in collaboration with the operators, to take immediate and decisive action to address this matter and restore confidence in the airport’s cleanliness and hygiene standards,” Rep. Salo stated. “We cannot compromise on the safety and comfort of our travelers, especially our Filipino migrant workers and balikbayans,” Salo added.

He further urges passengers to remain vigilant and report any instances of pest infestations or cleanliness concerns promptly.

Salo assured the public of his unwavering commitment to closely monitor developments regarding the situation and advocate for measures that prioritize passenger safety and enhance the overall airport experience.

He considered DoTr’s recent announcement of San Miguel Corp.’s (SMC) winning the P170.6-billion contract to operate, maintain, and upgrade NAIA, as an opportunity to enhance NAIA’s facilities and operations. “We trust that the envisioned NAIA upgrade will be undertaken soonest to finally and permanently address such concerns,” Salo concluded.
