A SUSPECTED ‘sextortionist’ was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group in a sting in Pasig City on Thursday last week, officials said yesterday.

PNP-ACG director Major General Sydney S. Hernia identified the accused as John Paul Mendoza alias ‘Jaypee,’ a 28-year-old resident of Barangay Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City.

The official said that the suspect was arrested in an entrapment operation launched by officers from the Eastern District Anti-Cybercrime Team led by Lieutenant Bryan James Taguinod at the corner of Ortigas Extension and Monaco Street in Rosario, Pasig City.

The arrest was made following a complaint from a 28-year-old female resident of Pasig City, said ACG Cyber Response Unit chief Colonel Jay D. Guillermo.

The woman said that the accused threatened to upload their sex video to embarrass her if she did not have sex with him again.

The sting led to the arrest of the suspect who yielded a mobile phone believed to be containing the explicit sex video. His motorcycle was also impounded by the police.

The suspect was charged with violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, RA 9262 or the Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, grave threat and grave coercion, all in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
